CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Eight persons sit in two parallel rows of four seats each. Row 1 faces south and Row 2 faces north, so each person in Row 1 faces exactly one person in Row 2. Seats in both rows are numbered 1 to 4 from west to east. Row 1 has A, B, C and D in seats 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. In Row 2, P sits in seat 4, Q sits immediately to the west of P, R sits immediately to the west of Q, and S takes the remaining seat. Who faces B?

R faces B. B occupies seat 2 of the first row, and in the second row P, Q and R occupy seats 4, 3 and 2 from east to west. So the person directly opposite seat 2 is R.

  4. DS

Explanation

B is in seat 2 of Row 1. In Row 2, P is in seat 4, Q is immediately west of P in seat 3, and R is immediately west of Q in seat 2. S is left with seat 1. The person in seat 2 of Row 2 is R, so R faces B. Q would be the answer only if B were in seat 3.
