CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Five persons A, B, C, D and E sit in a row facing north. C sits in the middle. A sits immediately to the left of C. B sits at one of the extreme ends but not next to A. D does not sit next to C. Who sits at the extreme left end?

D sits at the extreme left end. With C in seat 3 and A in seat 2, B must take seat 5 because seat 1 is next to A. D cannot be next to C, so D takes seat 1 and E takes seat 4.

  1. AA
  2. BB
  3. CDCorrect
  4. DE

Explanation

Number the seats 1 to 5 from the left. C is at 3 and A is at 2. B is at an end but not next to A, so B is at 5, since seat 1 is next to A. D and E take seats 1 and 4. D cannot be next to C, so D is at 1 and E is at 4. Seat 1 is therefore D.
