Which of the following is a recognised disadvantage of quota sampling compared with simple random sampling?
The disadvantage is that sampling error cannot be statistically measured. Because quota sampling is non-random and depends on interviewer choice, the chance of selection is unknown and bias may arise, unlike random methods.
- AIt requires a complete sampling frame of the population
- BSampling error cannot be statistically measured because selection is not randomCorrect
- CIt cannot ensure that sub-groups are represented
- DIt is always slower and more costly to carry out
Explanation
Quota sampling relies on interviewer judgement, so selection probabilities are unknown and sampling error cannot be quantified. It does not need a sampling frame and does ensure sub-group representation. It is generally quicker and cheaper, so the last option is wrong.
