A tailor in Surat charges a fixed ₹600 per month for the shop plus ₹40 per shirt stitched. If he stitches 25 shirts in a month, his total cost of stitching is ₹1,600. If a competitor charges ₹30 per shirt with a fixed cost of ₹850, at how many shirts per month do both have equal total cost?

The two cost lines meet at 25 shirts. Equating 600 + 40x with 850 + 30x gives 10x = 250, so x = 25, and at that level both costs equal ₹1,600.

  1. A20
  2. B25Correct
  3. C30
  4. D35

Explanation

Set 600 + 40x = 850 + 30x. Then 10x = 250, so x = 25. Check: 600 + 1,000 = 1,600 and 850 + 750 = 1,600. A wrong sign when moving terms, such as 10x = 1,450, would give 145, which is not an option, and mistaking the 20 option arises from using 850 − 600 divided by 12.5.
