If x, y, z are in AP, which expression must be the arithmetic mean of x and z?
The arithmetic mean of x and z is y. When three numbers are in AP, the middle term is exactly the average of the first and third, so y = (x + z)/2. The value 2y is the sum, not the mean.

- B2y
- Cy/2
- Dy²
Explanation
For three terms in AP, the middle term is the average of the other two: y = (x + z)/2. So the arithmetic mean of x and z is y. Option 2y is their sum.
