In a row of persons all facing north, Rahul is 7th from the left end and Sunil is 12th from the right end. When Rahul and Sunil interchange their positions, Rahul becomes 18th from the left end. How many persons are there in the row?

There are 29 persons in the row. Rahul's new place, 18th from the left, is Sunil's original place. Sunil was also 12th from the right, so the total is 18 + 12 - 1 = 29, since Sunil is counted in both counts.

  1. A28
  2. B29Correct
  3. C30
  4. D31

Explanation

After the interchange Rahul takes Sunil's original place, so Sunil was 18th from the left. He was also 12th from the right. Total = 18 + 12 - 1 = 29. The option 30 comes from adding 18 and 12 without subtracting Sunil's own place, which is counted twice.
