Ramesh, a worker in a Pune factory, is told by his employer that he must work without any payment because the employer 'has given him a job'. Which constitutional provision is most directly violated?

Article 23 is violated. It prohibits traffic in human beings, begar and other similar forms of forced labour, which is a Fundamental Right. Making a worker work without payment amounts to forced labour, whereas the other articles deal with association, participation in management or the right to work as directives.

  1. AArticle 23, which prohibits forced labour and traffic in human beingsCorrect
  2. BArticle 43A, which provides for worker participation in management
  3. CArticle 19(1)(c), which protects the right to form associations
  4. DArticle 41, which provides for the right to work

Explanation

Article 23 prohibits begar and other similar forms of forced labour, and compelling work without payment falls within it. Article 43A is a Directive Principle on participation in management and is not about forced work. Article 19(1)(c) concerns forming associations, and Article 41 is a non-enforceable directive.
