CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Six persons P, Q, R, S, T and U sit around a circular table, all facing the centre. S sits opposite P. Q sits second to the right of P. R sits immediately to the left of P. T is not an immediate neighbour of Q. Who sits between R and S?

T sits between R and S. Placing P at seat 1, S is at seat 4, Q at seat 5 and R at seat 2. T cannot be next to Q, so T takes seat 3, which lies between R and S, and U takes seat 6.

Explanation

Number the seats 1 to 6 clockwise and put P at 1. S is opposite, at 4. Facing the centre, right is anticlockwise, so second to the right of P is seat 5, giving Q=5. Immediate left of P is seat 2, so R=2. T and U take seats 3 and 6. Q's neighbours are seats 4 and 6, so T cannot be at 6. Hence T=3 and U=6. Seat 3 lies between R (2) and S (4), so T sits there. U is wrong because U sits at seat 6, next to Q.
