A firm uses a project network where the longest path of dependent activities decides the minimum completion time, and activities on it have zero slack. Which control technique is this?

The technique is the Critical Path Method. It finds the longest chain of dependent activities, which fixes the minimum project duration, and activities on this path have zero slack, so any delay in them delays the entire project.

  1. ABreak-even analysis
  2. BCritical Path Method (CPM)Correct
  3. CRatio analysis
  4. DZero-base budgeting

Explanation

CPM identifies the longest sequence of dependent activities, the critical path, whose delay delays the whole project; these activities have zero slack. Break-even analysis relates costs, volume and profit, and ratio analysis compares financial figures, so neither deals with project time networks.
