CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Eight persons sit in two rows of four seats, numbered 1 to 4 from west to east, with each person facing the person in the same-numbered seat of the other row. Row 1 (P, Q, R, S) faces north. Row 2 (T, U, V, W) faces south. S sits at the extreme right end of Row 1. Q sits second to the left of S. R is an immediate neighbour of S. T faces Q. W sits at the extreme left end of Row 2. U sits immediately to the right of T. Who faces P?

U faces P. Row 1 gives P seat 1. In Row 2, which faces south, right is west, so U, sitting to the right of T in seat 2, takes seat 1 and is opposite P.

Explanation

Row 1 faces north, so right is east. S is in seat 4, Q is in seat 2, R is next to S in seat 3, and P is in seat 1. In Row 2, which faces south, left is east and right is west. T faces Q so T is in seat 2. W at the extreme left is in seat 4. U, immediately right of T, is in seat 1, and V is in seat 3. U faces P. Treating Row 2 as facing north would wrongly put U in seat 3.
