In a standard full-block or modified-block business letter, which part appears immediately after the inside address and before the body of the letter?
The salutation comes right after the inside address and before the body. A business letter runs from letterhead, date, reference and inside address to salutation, subject, body, complimentary close, signature and enclosures, so closing elements such as the close and signature appear at the end.
- ASalutationCorrect
- BComplimentary close
- CEnclosure note
- DSignature block
Explanation
The usual order is letterhead, date, reference, inside address, salutation, subject line, body, complimentary close, signature and enclosures. The salutation (e.g., Dear Sir) therefore follows the inside address. The complimentary close and signature come at the end of the letter.
