CA Foundation · Quantitative Aptitude · Seating Arrangements

Twelve persons sit in two parallel rows of six, with the rows facing each other. In Row 1, which faces south, Anil sits third from the east end. In Row 2, which faces north, Divya sits opposite Anil. Rohit, also in Row 2, sits third to the left of Divya. What is Rohit's position from the east end of Row 2?

Rohit is sixth from the east end of Row 2. Anil is fourth from the west, so Divya is too. Rohit is three seats to Divya's left, which is toward the west for a north-facing person. That is the first seat from the west, which is sixth from the east.

Explanation

Anil is third from the east end in a row of six, so Anil is fourth from the west. Divya, opposite, is also fourth from the west. Row 2 faces north, so left is west. Third to the left of Divya is the first seat from the west. That seat is sixth from the east end. Counting from the west instead would wrongly give first.
