What stood out

  • All four questions were compulsory with no alternatives, and every one of the 20 entries carried 5 marks.
  • Social security legislation led with 25 marks (gratuity continuity and withholding, employment injury, ESI coverage of a shop, PF on international workers), followed by industrial relations and welfare law at 20 marks each.
  • The paper is heavily case-law driven: the opening retrenchment case alone asked about writ maintainability, scope of retrenchment, tribunal reference limits and sympathetic strikes.
  • Questions mixed the legacy labour statutes in fact patterns with Labour Code provisions in direct questions, such as appeals and equal remuneration under the Code on Wages and the company secretary compliance role under the Codes.
