A senior manager at a Pune firm dismisses a junior's suggestion because the junior is much younger, and so never listens to the content. Which type of barrier is mainly at work?

This is a personal barrier. The manager's prejudice about the junior's age, an attitude of the receiver, stops him from listening to the message. Noise, faulty networks and jargon are physical, technical or semantic problems, and none of them is the reason the suggestion was ignored.

  1. APersonal barrier arising from attitude and prejudice of the receiverCorrect
  2. BPhysical barrier arising from noise in the office
  3. CTechnical barrier arising from a faulty network
  4. DSemantic barrier arising from use of jargon

Explanation

The message is rejected because of the receiver's prejudice about the sender's age, not because of the channel, noise or words used. Attitudes, biases and status consciousness are personal barriers. Physical, technical and semantic barriers concern environment, equipment and language, none of which is the cause here.
